Palm Lakes woman critical after being bitten by Black Mamba
She was bitten in her home and had to be airlifted to a hospital in Durban.
An elderly resident at Palm Lakes estate near Ballito is in a critical condition after being bitten by a Black Mamba on Wednesday.
IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson Dylan Meyrick said they had to call in a helicopter ambulance to airlift the woman to hospital.
Confirming she had been bitten by the mamba at her home, estate manager Ross Bishop said the 62-year-old woman was in intensive care.
The black mamba is Africa’s deadliest snake. It can take 7 to 15 hours for its bite to kill you and left untreated the fatality rate is 100 percent,
Ndlondlo Reptile Park’s snake catcher, Neville Wolmarans, said they managed to capture the juvenile mamba without harming it. It will be released into the wild in Zululand.
How the snake got into the home remains unclear.
