Man critical after suspected suicide attempt on Ballito bridge
One southbound lane of the N2 was temporarily closed but has since been reopened.
A man in his 40s remains in critical condition after it is alleged he jumped from the Ballito N2 bridge just after 8am this morning.
It is unclear whether it was an accident or a suicide attempt, but given the railing on the bridge (between Ballito Drive and the P445, over the N2), the latter is suspected.
“We received a call about an alleged jump and responded to the scene.
“The man was in critical condition when we arrived and was transported to the General Justice Gizenga Mpanza hospital in KwaDukuza for further care,” said IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson, Dylan Meyrick.
Following the incident, one southbound lane of the N2 was temporarily closed but it has since been reopened.
Umhlali Saps attended the scene but no case or inquest docket had been lodged at time of publication.
