Umhlali Prep to play Kearsney rugby festival curtain-raiser tomorrow

The U13A players will face off against the KZNRU Ibuto/Mark Godefroy U13 team.

Umhlali Preparatory School’s U13 rugby team will kick off the prestigious Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival tomorrow morning at 8am.

The youngsters were selected alongside Highbury, Hillcrest, a KZNRU Ibuto/Mark Godefroy U13 team and Hartpury College (UK) to play the traditional junior school curtain-raisers on each of the three festival days.

Umhlali will play the first game of the entire programme, facing off against KZNRU Ibuto tomorrow.

The main festival runs over three days on Thursday, Saturday and next Monday, and will host some of the best high school rugby teams from across South Africa and the United Kingdom.

Umhlali’s young rugby stars have the opportunity to kick off the entire festival.

Kearsney, Glenwood, Westville and Durban High School will represent KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), while Hoërskool Monument, Dr EG Jansen, Hoërskool Framesby, Dale College, Hoër Landbouskool

Marlow and Hoërskool Noord-Kaap complete the South African contingent.

For the first time, Worcester Gymnasium and Hartpury College will travel from the United Kingdom to participate.
