Progress made on Flag Farm Road upgrade and N2 interchange
The projects will jointly cost more than R116.6-million.
Progress is being made on the colloquially named Flag Farm Road (P228) which is undergoing an upgrade to turn it into a traditional roadway.
Property developer Collins Residential continues to make headway with the 2km stretch of road, with hopes of starting upgrades on the N2 between Salt Rock and Tinley Manor by August.
The Collins Group, through a broader infrastructural upgrade agreement, had agreed to upgrade the P228 as well as construct an interchange on the N2.
The P228 upgrades should be complete by the end of the year, while efforts on the N2 are anticipated to be completed by March next year.
Collins Residential head, Geoff Perkins, said their role in the much-needed road and infrastructure upgrade will have a significant impact on the community who live and work in Salt Rock and Sheffield.
“It is a significant arterial route that services several estates in the area, including Seaton and Lalela estates. Our development mandate includes the responsibility to support this upgrade, which will in turn benefit the community at large,” he said.
Phase 1 of the interchange on the N2 is expected to start once the Collins Group has obtained approvals from the transport department and South African National Roads Agency.
