King Shaka air link with Zambia resumes
Improved air connectivity will strengthen business links between the two destinations,
Flights between King Shaka International Airport and one of the country’s key African trading partners, Zambia, have resumed, with the first flight landing last Thursday.
Zambian airline company, ProFlight, will operate flights on Thursdays and Sundays.
It is anticipated that business and tourism will be boosted as a result, with figures from 2021 and 2022 noting that travel between the two countries had then grown by 38%.
eThekwini municipality said during the same period South Africa’s exports to Zambia grew to R1.6-billion.
“Improved air connectivity will undoubtedly strengthen business links between the two destinations,” said KZN economic development, tourism and environmental affairs MEC, Siboniso Duma.

In January 2020 South African Airways cut 38 international and local flights, including the Zambia route.
eThekwini mayor, Mxolisi Kaunda, said they were excited about the resumption of the flights.
“We are thrilled to have ProFlight flying to Durban. With the tourism industry gradually recovering, the resumption of air services facilitate greater leisure and business travel to our shores.
“Growing intra-Africa travel is a key component of our broader strategy to ensure competitiveness,” said Kaunda.
