Waste collector critically injured after falling off moving truck
The circumstances leading to the accident are being investigated.
A Dolphin Coast Waste Management (DCWM) employee had to be airlifted to a hospital today (Friday) after falling off a moving waste truck in Shakaskraal.
Believed to be in his 40s, the man was collecting waste when he lost his footing and fell, and was run over by the truck’s back wheel.
According to Dylan Meyrick of IPSS Medical Rescue, the injured man is currently in a critical condition.
DCWM management said the incident is being investigated by its health and safety officer.
“The staff member is currently in hospital receiving medical attention. One of our supervisors, together with the employee’s family members, is at the hospital awaiting the doctor’s report on the severity of the injuries,” DCWM said.
