Bodies of two boys recovered from Umdloti River
The young boys drowned while on a fishing trip.
The bodies of two young boys who drowned while fishing yesterday, were retrieved from the uMdloti River today.
According to reports Andile Ngema (11) and Sibongokuhle Msami (12), both pupils at Waterloo Primary School, ventured into the water for a swim and encountered difficulties before disappearing beneath the surface.
An extensive search had to be called off last night because of poor light but resumed this morning with the help of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), IPSS Medical & Rescue Services, the SAPS Umhlali’s K9 Search & Rescue Unit and Metro police divers.
The RUSA helicopter was deployed to shift dense hyacinth further downstream from the spot where the boys went missing. K9 Dante then indicated a specific location, which led to a dive operation and the recovery of the boys’ bodies.
