Upgrade plans for Townsend Park play area
Once the refurbishment has been completed, councillor Jack Abrahams will turn his attention to securing funds for the installation of a fence around the playground.
Townsend Park’s play area for children is in dire need of an upgrade.
Ward councillor Jack Abrahams has taken it upon himself to spearhead a fundraising drive to revamp and make the facilities safe by June 16.
The play area was established thanks to a generous donation from the Samuelson family shortly before the outbreak of the Covid pandemic.
Regrettably, the family can no longer afford its upkeep.
“While this space remains a cherished retreat for children, damage to the equipment caused by the elements over time has now created unsafe conditions,” said Abrahams.

He said he has managed to secure the first glimmer of hope of restoring the facility. Dol Olding company has pledged to supply metal for the restoration work.
“We have calculated that R2 700 will be needed to complete work such as sanding and repainting. Residents who want to contribute by directly purchasing the necessary items instead of monetary donations are of course most welcome,” said Abrahams.
Once the refurbishment has been completed, Abrahams will turn his attention to securing funds for the installation of a fence around the playground.
He said this will, among others, help shield children from untamed canines that have reportedly chased them in the past.
Darren Samuelson said that the family were in support of the initiative by Abrahams and they call businesses and residents to please join in revamping the play area.
