Sewage spill closes Thompson’s Bay beach

Teams are attending to the problem but it is unclear how long the beach will remain closed.

Thompson’s Bay beach was closed this morning (Monday), after a sewerage pipe burst along Simbithi Drive causing sewage to spill into the sea.

KwaDukuza Municipality spokesperson, Sipho Mkhize, confirmed that teams were attending to the spill but could not confirm for how long the beach would remain closed.

He said water quality tests would be conducted, and the beach reopened once tests showed the water to be safe for bathing.

Mkhize highlighted that only Thompson’s Bay beach had been impacted.
