#BreakingNews: M4 Tongaat River bridge tender awarded
After being damaged in last year's devastating floods, the bridge is set to finally undergo repair work of R54-million.
The South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) this morning announced that a R54-million tender for the repair and rehabilitation of the M4 Tongaat River bridge has been awarded.
The bridge, damaged during last year’s floods, will be repaired by Empa Structures (Pty) Ltd.
Sanral Eastern Region project manager, Mpho Nephembani, said the tender was awarded yesterday (Tuesday).
Nephembani said specific contractors were invited to bid on a closed tender last month after Sanral failed to appoint a contractor after five previous tender attempts.
“We are excited at the prospect of starting with the repairs on the bridge. It has been a long road but once complete, it will assist in bringing back normality into residents and motorists’ lives after the devastating floods,” said Nephembani.
The contract duration is six months and work is expected to start ‘earnestly’, Sanral reported.
