Healing the natural way with homeopathy

When it comes to respiratory health during winter, especially for people battling with asthma and allergies, Dr Pramlall said homeopathic remedies are effective in stimulating the body's defence system, helping it cope with exposure to allergens.

Seasonal allergies, common colds, dry skin and even seasonal affective disorder (SAD) are but a few of the problems most prevalent during the colder months of the year when our immune systems are more at risk.

But an holistic answer may lie in homeopathy, which aims to treat the root cause of a given condition.

Sharing her insights with the Courier, Ballito-based homeopath Dr Pratisha Pramlall said she is passionate about helping people live healthier lifestyles through the health-sciences sector.

She achieves this by using a more natural, gentle and alternative healing approach which most people tend to overlook.

“What really inspired me was when I spent some time in India before opening my practice where I was fortunate enough to observe experienced homeopaths’ success in treating various conditions, ranging from skin ailments, reduction of tumours and many successful fertility cases.”

She said during colder months she has witnessed common health challenges, most notable the usual spike in flu cases.

“In homeopathy, the aim is to support the body’s natural ability to fight off ailments while building a strong immune system.”

Homeopathy is patient-specific, which means the approach is holistic where focus lies in treating the root cause of any condition.

Dr Pramlall highlighted that it was important to also take into account various factors affecting people daily, such as stress, diet, sleep and lifestyle activities.

When it comes to respiratory health during winter, especially for people battling with asthma and allergies, Dr Pramlall said homeopathic remedies are effective in stimulating the body’s defence system, helping it cope with exposure to allergens.

“Homeopathic remedies work quite quickly in acute situations so, it is best to treat your symptoms as soon as they start,” she said.

“Everyone has a different experience of a cold or flu for example, and each person will be prescribed a different remedy based on their individual symptoms.”

Winter often also brings about feelings of sadness, but homeopathy can offer a natural solution to support emotional well-being.

“The most prevalent conditions I have been treating include anxiety and depression,” she said, concluding it was important to equip patients with tools that will help them on a daily basis, coupling mental health with homeopathic remedies and supplements.

Dr Pramlall is based at The Well Centre in Ballito, and has been in practice for the past six years.
