Westbrook flea market launches
Around 25 stallholders turned out for the first event which quietly grew in popularity over the course of the day as word spread throughout the town.
The launch of the Westbrook Flea Market last weekend saw the latest addition to a booming market sector on the North Coast.
Hosted at the open area next to the Westbrook Shell petrol station, the monthly market hosts a number of interesting stallholders that offer everything from cuisine and crafts to clothing.
Founded by Amy Loader and Nishka Govender, the market is replacing the short-lived Westbrook Market which began at the end of last year.

Around 25 stallholders turned out for the first event which quietly grew in popularity over the course of the day as word spread throughout the town.
“Although the last market closed, we felt it was important to have a re-do because there are many people in the community who rely on the income they can earn here,” said Govender.
Aside from the goods that can be bought, the market also hosts local security and healthcare providers. “We wanted this to become a meeting place for the community, where residents can get to know each other and become closer,” said Loader.

One such community group present was the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) who were promoting their house-numbering programme.
Patrollers and security providers found that many homes on the coast between La Mercy and Westbrook did not have properly displayed numbers, often making it difficult to locate them in emergencies.
CERT is providing reflective numbers and directions on how to place them at a cost of R50. To get yours, reach out to CERT via social media or via WhatsApp at 084 963 4680.

If you would like to find out more about the market or how to become a stallholder, you can reach out via their social media pages.
The market is likely to be hosted on the first Saturday of the month from 12-6pm, although times are subject to change and will be posted on social media.
