Charlottedale acid attack victim Londi fights back
While court proceedings about the incident are ongoing, Londi is in a process of getting facial reconstruction at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital.
Left physically scarred and emotionally shattered after a vicious acid attack earlier this year, 19-year-old Charlottedale teen Londi Thabethe is slowly rebuilding her life.
She is determined not to allow the traumatic experience to define her.
In February, the Grade 12 Groutville High pupil had to put her education on hold after a 46-year-old woman and her two children allegedly poured acid over her in Charlottedale following a dispute.
While court proceedings about the incident are ongoing, Londi is in a process of getting facial reconstruction at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital.
She eagerly awaits the transformative effects of plastic surgery, scheduled to be completed by July next year.

She sees this as an opportunity to reclaim her identity and rebuild her self-confidence, while furthering her studies with the aim of becoming a lawyer.
“In the aftermath of the incident, so many people rallied behind me. This helped me discover a new purpose for my life. I now aspire to become a lawyer so that I may extend a helping hand to those who find themselves in desperate need of assistance, just as I did.”

Londi expressed her gratitude to the countless people who have stood by her side, including the support from the Ladies House Facebook group, her fellow pupils and the local community.
She admits the journey hasn’t been easy. Damaged nerves in both hands have severely limited her abilities.
Facing her alleged attacker in court is another challenge, as it brings back a flood of traumatic memories from that dreadful day.
The next court appearance will be on August 24.
