Shaka’s Head musician Luthando determined to reach the top
For Luthando Mabaso, it is more than just melodies but rather a source of inner peace, strength and guidance.
Young Shaka’s Head musician Luthando Mabaso, aka YM, hopes his new EP released last month will help him reach for the stars.
The 26-year-old is seriously pursuing his ambition of becoming a top-class musician, working hard to develop his talents in between his day job at a local tyre company.
Originally from Maritzburg and now residing on the North Coast, Mabaso’s musical journey began in 2013.
His uncle, an upcoming hip-hop artist, sparked his passion for music.
For him, it is more than just melodies but rather a source of inner peace, strength, and guidance.
“When I create music, I’m truly myself. It’s where I find comfort and express my feelings. No matter the challenges I face, music is my reliable companion and I pour my heart into it.”
On his latest EP, Mabaso collaborated with emerging artists such as Xigod from India.
The extension of this project is set to be released next year. Mabaso and Xigod connected through social media, sparking a creative partnership.
“Our collaboration was virtual, I’d compose a song, record it and send it to him. He’d add his lyrics and send it back. Even though we’ve never met in person, our online collaboration worked seamlessly.”
Mabaso’s ultimate aspiration is to secure a contract with a renowned music company.
He acknowledges that this achievement demands relentless effort and unwavering determination.
“I’m fully aware that my journey won’t be easy. Hard work is my path, and I embrace it. I firmly believe that my dedication will eventually yield results,” said Mabaso.
