Planned demolition of King Cetshwayo Bridge will see several major roads closed
Motorists are advised to either delay trips over this period, or find suitable alternative routes.
The King Cetshwayo Bridge on the M13, over the N2 at Durban, will be demolished by the South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) on October 14.
The demolition will temporarily close several roads between 6pm on October 14 and 5am on October 16.
Roads to be closed include the north and southbound N2 between EB Cloete interchange (Spaghetti Junction) and the Umgeni Road interchange, as well as the M13 between the Westwood Mall and 45th Avenue.
“This major road network is, and has been, under major stress for a number of years,” Sanral reported, adding that traffic volumes had exceeded the original design capacity of the EB Cloete interchange and its feeder roads.
The bridge was built in the 60s and can no longer accommodate the extra lanes below it.
The demolition forms part of a major national road network upgrade that is being undertaken throughout the province to relieve traffic congestion.
