Royal Jozini opens to investors

A unique bush opportunity at Royal Jozini Private Game Reserve, just four hours north of Ballito, has recently opened to investors.

Wedged between the northern shores of Lake Jozini and the southern cliffs of the Lebombo Mountains, minutes over the Eswatini border, the reserve represents a rare chance for private investment within a game reserve.

The Courier was recently invited to experience it first hand, getting a chance to spend some time on the lake and traversing the 7 000 hectares of land in the reserve.

Around two thousand hectares of that has been made available to private investors, with 100 new plots recently entering the market on a 99-year renewable lease agreement.

Founded in 2006, Royal Jozini will be well known to keen fishermen and women for its tigerfishing competitions.

Lake Jozini is the furthest south on the African continent where the prized gamefish can be caught.

But the Kingdom of Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) also offers a host of land-based game viewing opportunities.

The landlocked country sits among some of southern Africa’s best areas for animal sightings and Royal Jozini hosts three of the Big 5 – elephant, buffalo and leopard – with plans to introduce cheetah soon.

Birders have a particularly impressive slate to spot too, with more than 400 bird species calling the reserve home.

Many can be spotted from the available plots, which span from the shores of the lake to the lower slopes of the Lebombo.
