Purple-clad daredevils take to Ballito’s streets
Proceeds from the run went to the Cancer Association of South Africa and the Prostate Cancer Foundation of South Africa.
Some Ballito streets were lined with an assortment of local beefcakes striding out donning only purple Speedos last Friday morning.
The 5km run was in aid of the annual countrywide Hollard Daredevil Run raising awareness of male cancer.
The local event was organised by Hunt Properties.
Since its inception in 2009, the Daredevil Run has gained much momentum.
A Hollard report indicates that by 2030, prostate cancer will be the most common cancer in the country, with black men having an estimated 60% higher risk for prostate cancer than other population groups.
The survival rate when detected early enough is 95% (98% for testicular cancer), while rare testicular cancer is still the most common cancer affecting men between the ages of 15-35.
