Ballito City Church embraces new dawn
The congregation has grown to 200 from both inside and outside the estate, with all welcome to attend.
Ballito City Church is moving forward with a new name, but promises to keep the same identity built over the past 43 years.
The church, formerly known as Encounter Church Ballito, remains at its home in Seaward Estates and with Kurt and Shannon Davis at the helm.
The couple moved from Johannesburg to take over stewardship of the church in 2021 and are the latest in a long lineage who have led the congregation since Wessel and Carol Wessels first started at the scout hall at Townsend Park in 1980.
It has changed destinations, leadership and name before, but always stuck to its central mission of spreading the word of the Lord.
“We started a church in the East Rand in 2010 which we led until deciding that we needed to take a break. Once we felt we were ready to lead again, Jesus presented us with the opportunity to come to Ballito,” said Kurt.
“We soon felt at home in this community and can see that it is becoming a city, which is where the name comes from.”

“We feel a new dawn breaking over us as a church and we want to share this with our community. We want to serve the community in a greater way going forward.”
The new logo is set in an orange circle to signify the rising sun of the new dawn.
“We look forward to being here for the next 40 years, God willing.”
