R12-million skills boost for iLembe youth
Enterprise iLembe CEO Linda Mncube said development programmes would cover automotive body repairs, electro-mechanics, pipe fitting and automotive sales.
More than R12-million has been earmarked for the implementation of a merSETA accredited skills development programme for 400 youth in the iLembe district.
KZN MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Siboniso Duma, handed over the cheque at the launch of the Moses Kotane Institute’s (MKI) Skills Revolution Campaign at Mangosuthu University of Technology recently.
MKI successfully secured R126-million from the Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services Sector Education and Training Authority (merSETA), from which the R12-million was allocated.
The funds will help address skills gaps to stimulate job creation in the province.
iLembe district mayor Thobani Shandu expressed his gratitude for the support.
“From both an economic and developmental perspective, the indispensability of skills development programmes cannot be overstated. This campaign augurs well for our emerging manufacturing and engineering sector, especially given its impact on job creation and growing the economy,” said Shandu.
