BMW crashes into Ballito restaurant

Two workers injured and taken to hospital.

Two Sai Pure Vegetarian restaurant employees were rushed to hospital after a car crashed into the eatery in Ballito this afternoon.

According to the BMW X5 driver, Mlu Mkhize, his car’s battery was causing problems and he went to a mechanical workshop opposite the restaurant to get it fixed.

“I parked in front of the restaurant to reverse into the parking bay in front of the workshop. I’m not sure what and how it happened but my car just accelerated into the restaurant,” said Mkhize.

IPSS Medical Rescue’s Dylan Meyrick said two staff members suffered minor to serious injuries.

Restaurant co-owner Natasha Allan said the restaurant would be temporarily closed while they sorted out the damage.

A similar incident happened in January this year when a car crashed into Col’Cacchio Pizzeria in the New Salt Rock shopping centre. The driver, a woman in her 50s, escaped with moderate injuries.
