The trees should deliver about 40 tons of litchis this season.

Verbara Farm on Glendale Road buzzed with activity as a throng of people enjoyed the Litchi Festival last Friday.

Happy voices echoed through the orchard as families and friends enjoyed plucking the juiciest litchis straight from the trees.

The estate, about 10km up Glendale Road via Shakaskraal, boasts 850 trees that are almost 40 years old.

Ashnie Nair and Shireen Dasrath came all the way from Phoenix.
