The North Coast Courier Best of Ballito Readers’ Choice Awards 2023 gave readers an opportunity to vote for pizza outlets that leave a lasting impression.
Last year’s competition was bigger than ever with 1 164 businesses nominated across 150 categories and more than 230 000 votes cast.
Nominations are set to open for the 2024 competition on April 1. But before we dive into this year’s competition, we want to take a moment to celebrate the current title holders.
To start, let’s take a look back at the top three pizza spots as voted for by the public.
- Salt Café
Salt Café has it all, exquisite thin-based wood-fired pizza, and a unique setting that instantly evokes ‘good vibrations’.
Sitting at the small roadside café under a canopy of twisting vines, the smell of pizzas baking mingles with the smell of the ocean and relaxation washes over you like a wave.
Located on the corner of Old Main Road and Ocean Drive, the pizza masters deliver perfection from Wednesday to Sunday from 12.30 – 7.30pm.

2. La Piazza
Italian food lovers are in for a treat at Ballito’s La Piazza located at The Well.
The restaurant emerged as the 2nd most loved pizza spot for its scrumptious and authentic Italian pizza offerings.
A variety of delicious pizza options ranging from a Mixecana (R110) with onions, jalapeno, chilli mince and mixed peppers, to a Ferrari (R110) with pepper, onion, feta, ham, olive and salami have huge appeal.

3. Bird & Co.
A trip to The Market at Ballito Lifestyle Centre makes an excellent spot for date night with live music, artisanal food and plenty of vibe.
Resident pizza joint Bird & Co claimed 3rd place on Ballito’s leaderboard on the best pizza the region has to offer.
Signature wood-fired pizzas like the ”Hot Chick” (R135) will also help you make the right impression with your significant other.
