The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund: 21 years of transforming lives in iLembe district
The fund has raised and distributed more than R8-million in support of orphans and vulnerable children affected by HIV/Aids, natural disasters and poverty.

The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund was established in July 2003 by Courier co-founder Rose Stephenson with the purpose of channeling money raised from the public to non-governmental organisations that specialise in caring for orphans and vulnerable children within the iLembe district.
The fund has been making a difference to the poorest of the poor, mostly those who have been affected by HIV/Aids-related deaths of breadwinners in their families and natural disasters such as floods and unrest in KZN.
Funds are generated through fundraising events, donations from businesses and individuals and various reward programmes.
To date, the Orphan Fund has raised and distributed more than R8-million. It is independently audited to ensure transparency.
Funds are distributed to organisations specialising in social work through which aid is provided for the care of small groups of orphans or vulnerable children in terms of, among others, school feeding schemes, school transport costs, and assisting students at tertiary institutions.
The demands on limited funds continue to grow rapidly and the Orphan Fund cannot possibly meet all the requests that land on its desk.
To help alleviate this challenge, corporates, organisations and individuals who have like-minded goals are invited to partner with the Orphan Fund to help uplift struggling communities.
