Two people were shot and killed by police officers during a shoot-out in Groutville this afternoon.

According to a local source, one of the deceased was a notorious house robbery suspect who had been terrorising residents in various townships around KwaDukuza.

The suspect reportedly opened fire on the police when confronted, prompting officers to return fire. Both he and his companion were killed.

Police have not yet released an official statement, and further details will follow.
