Saps taxi violence unit investigates Hambanathi killing

Gunmen opened fire on a man sitting in a parked car.

The eThekwini Saps taxi violence task team is investigating the murder of a man found dead in his car in Hambanathi, Tongaat, last Thursday.

According to Tongaat Saps spokesperson, captain JV Naidoo, police attended to a report of a fatal shooting and on arrival at the scene found a champagne-coloured Mercedes-Benz sedan with multiple gunshot holes visible parked next to the road.

On closer inspection they discovered the driver, estimated to be in his 40s, laying across the driver’s seat.

Eyewitnesses reported he was approached by gunmen while sitting in his stationary car and they later opened fire on him.

The suspects, and motive for the killing, are unknown at this stage but after a case of murder had been registered the eThekwini taxi violence task team joined the investigation.
