Suspected murder victim recovered from Tugela River

Teams used a rope system to recover the body from underneath a bridge.

The body of an unidentified man was recovered from the Tugela River in the Sundimbili area inland of Mandeni yesterday.

Multiple wounds on the man’s back and the location of his body under a bridge indicate he may have been murdered and dumped into the river.

Search teams from IPSS Medical Rescue, Empangeni Saps K9 Unit and Sundimbili Saps recovered the body yesterday afternoon after it was reported by a passerby.

“Search and Rescue members set up a rope system, hoisting the body in a stokes basket onto the bridge above,” said IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson, Samantha Meyrick.

“The identity of the man remains unknown, and his murder will be investigated further by Sundimbili Saps.”
