Excellence awards spotlight KwaDukuza’s finest cops

Honouring the heroes behind the badge.

Courage, sacrifice, and dedication took centre stage last Friday as the KwaDukuza Saps Excellence Awards celebrated the officers who put their lives on the line daily to keep the community safe.

About 250 police officers attended the glittering event at Anesh’s Exclusive Events, to recognise those who had gone above and beyond in their duties.

Distinguished guests included district commissioner, major general Anthony Gopaul, Maphumulo deputy mayor Phathabakhe Shezi, and KwaDukuza deputy mayor Njabulo Cele.

Gopaul commended the efforts of the KwaDukuza Saps team, particularly station commander, brigadier Sbongile Mhlongo.

Cele expressed his gratitude to Gopaul and the Saps management team for fostering an environment that enables effective policing.

He also praised the KwaDukuza Community Police Forum (CPF), led by Dr Mfuneni Zungu, for its dedication to the safety of the community. Cele highlighted the successful partnership between Saps and the CPF, which has been key in maintaining peace and security.

Cele further paid tribute to the late KwaDukuza traffic police officer, Superintendent Mariemuthoo Desmond Arumugam (50), who tragically lost his life in the line of duty at the beginning of this month, acknowledging the swift action of Saps and other stakeholders to capture the perpetrator.

He urged everyone present to continue their commitment to serving the people of KwaDukuza.
