Siza Water foreman launches grassroots charity drive in Groutville and Stanger
Makhaye’s mission to spread joy this Christmas.
Siza Water maintenance foreman Thabiso Makhaye has a philanthropic heart, dedicating much of his spare time to supporting vulnerable members of society.
With Christmas fast approaching, his newly registered non-profit organisation, Psalms 91 Charity Foundation, is collecting clothes, food and toys for impoverished families in Groutville and the Othandweni Children’s Home in Stanger.
He hopes to garner public and business support for a major distribution initiative on December 16.
Although cash contributions are always welcome, Makhaye said his foundation prefers donations of essentials to feed and clothe destitute families, as well as bringing joy to children.
Growing up in Illovo, Makhaye said his Christian upbringing instilled in him a desire to help others.
This became more tangible in 2019 when he and a group of friends undertook door-to-door prayer meetings in Durban and Groutville, seeking public donations to help underprivileged households they identified.
He is also linked to the national God’s Love Ambassadors movement Makhaye always sets aside a portion of his salary every month to help fund some of the causes.
Still holding onto a dream of opening a Christian home for vulnerable children, he decided to formalise his charity work in the meantime by registering his foundation earlier this year to hopefully make a bigger impact.
