Farmers Market panto creates magic
Panto with a Purpose to become an annual festive showcase.
The Ballito Farmers Market buzzed with Christmas cheer at the weekend as families came together for the inaugural Panto with a Purpose.
The show was about spreading joy, bringing the community closer and raising funds for LIV Village Durban, an organisation that cares for vulnerable children.

Market manager Anni du Plessis said the goal was to create a magical evening – and it delivered. The panto had children glued to their seats with excitement. Then came the big surprise: Santa arrived on an armoured vehicle, spraying water as children laughed and played.

Just when it seemed nothing could top that, the Grinch swooped in to steal Santa. But the day was saved by Sharky, the friendly shark mascot, who flew in on a Fidelity ADT helicopter to rescue Santa. The kids went wild with joy, cheering and shouting as their hero brought Santa safely back.

“It was such a magical moment. Seeing the kids’ faces light up made all the hard work worth it,” said Du Plessis.
The event was made possible by a passionate team, including Tracy Smith (Gated Estates), Craig Burden (Fidelity ADT), Simone Mann (Performing Arts Centre), Kyle Pretorius (director of the Ballito Farmers Market), and Du Plessis.

They have already announced that this festive celebration will become an annual tradition.
“I am so proud to have been part of this. A big thank you to everyone who helped make the magic happen. I cannot wait to see how it grows in the future,” Du Plessis said.
