iLembe school principals plan to align education with job market
Lodestone partnership to assist local schools.
Pupils must be taught subjects that align with the current job market.
More than 160 school principals from the iLembe district met at Simbithi Country Club last week to discuss how this and other relevant strategies could be implemented within the local school circuit.
Among the critical topics discussed was the urgent need to identify pupils requiring special education, the importance of financial literacy and the potential to award bursaries in industries with job opportunities.
This forms part of the Education Department’s countrywide vision to enhance the school curriculum by ensuring that pupils are equipped with relevant life skills.
District director, Dr Musa Madondo, said it was critical that local pupils were able to compete on the global stage alongside their peers from developed countries.
“The ultimate goal is to provide context-relevant, high-quality education that meets the social and economic needs and potential of our communities. We aim to equip learners to make informed choices that will positively influence their future,” said Madondo.
To make this goal attainable, the iLembe Education Department has partnered with a local non-profit company, Lodestone Edsupport, to improve public education within the district.
Lodestone Edsupport aims to support public schools by channelling private sector resources to enhance teaching in alignment with regional job creation opportunities.
“Improvements need to be systemic yet concentrated on actionable strategies. It is essential for leadership teams to grasp the broader context, understand the complexities of their school systems and develop a long-term plan to address these challenges,” said Madondo.
