Residents share holiday hacks with festive season visitors
Readers dish out handy advice for first-time holidaymakers.
Shushie Ramjass – The Dolphin Coast is beautiful. Come and enjoy your holiday. But just like any other place, be cautious. Crime is everywhere [in South Africa].
Michele van der Merwe – Definitely bring rechargeable lights and fans and a good attitude!
Residents of Elaleni – There’s more to do than just the beach! Sugar Rush is a great destination, as is Burndale, Karibu and the Sage Centre.
Marinda Dyer – Make sure to book accommodation with back-up power or bring your own inverter… and yes, activate your alarms and lock your doors.
Hannelie Briel Muller – Only swim when and where there are lifeguards on duty.
Sandy Coughlan – Enjoy, but beware of potholes!
Jeffrey Khumalo – Carry a power bank, and maybe some rechargable lights, the electricity situation is so unpredictable, some holiday homes have a back up but some don’t.
Neels Prinsloo – Have fun, tip the waiter, be kind and use sunblock!
Lerashni Singh Harisunker – Please drive with caution. Lots of pedestrians walk on the roads, please be careful.
Judy van der Westhuizen – If I may ask our residents to drop the attitude and smile, that would be great. Let’s show a friendly, helpful side, instead of a cold, aloof side. We fill our pockets through tourism and many properties actually belong to up-country people. Be kind, be courteous and smile a little… even if you’ve had botox, give it a try.
Nik Rvca – Stay in central Ballito if you want a busy social vibe. Head north to Salt Rock, Sheffield Beach side if you want something a little more old school beach town.
Marion Esterhuizen – We don’t wear bikinis to the shopping malls.
Matt Smith – @Marion Esterhuizen bikinis to be worn at shopping centres are actually compulsory.
