Simbithi’s flagship sports complex opens for business

The R24.6-million facility boasts SA's first internationally-certified artificial bowls green.

South Africa’s first internationally-certified artificial bowls green can now be found in the all-new.

R24.6-million Simbithi Sports Complex.

The complex, which also includes three tennis courts, two padel courts, two squash courts and a 25-metre lap pool, opened to residents last week after a year of construction.

The new amenities join a pre-existing gym and a recently upgraded Simbithi Country Club golf course to ensure Simbithi Eco-Estate’s sport offering is competitive with any of the top lifestyle estates countrywide.

The sports complex has been long anticipated within the estate.

Facilities are for the use of residents and their guests only and cannot be booked out by the general public. Bookings will be handled through the Clubmaster app.

“We are really happy with how the sports complex has turned out and look forward to hosting league games across a few sports,” said sports manager, Dane Vosloo.

“You might think tennis and padel would be the most sought after, but I can tell you the bowls green has been by far the most anticipated feature!”

Simbithi Country Club general manager Craig Nell, sports manager Dane Vosloo and Simbithi Homeowners Association chairman, Jeff Leaver.

The synthetic green will be easier to maintain and is part of the wider environmentally-focused design of the complex. It includes a 280 000 litre attenuation tank which sits underneath the lap pool, helping with both storm water management and for water storage for the club and irrigation.

“Sustainability remains central to the development. Every element of the sports complex has been designed with environmental stewardship and community in mind,” said Simbithi Country Club general manager, Craig Nell. “From water conservation systems to eco-friendly landscaping, we have ensured this project aligns with Simbithi’s core values.”
