Kidnappers who posed as cops arrested in KwaDukuza

The trio is scheduled to appear in Verulam court on Monday.

Three men were arrested last week in Kranskop  and KwaDukuza in connection with a housebreaking and kidnapping in Terence Park, Verulam.

According to Captain Carmen Rhynes, of eThekwini District Communication, the arrests took place on Thursday after the suspects’ getaway vehicle was spotted in Kranskop.

Acting on a tip-off, the Verulam Saps team tracked the suspects to a local tavern.

When the alleged robbers left the tarven, police swiftly intercepted their vehicle on the road.

Two men were positively identified as suspects in the case. A search of their vehicle revealed a stash of incriminating items, including a replica firearm, gloves, multiple bank cards, tape, and several mobile phones.

They were arrested, and the vehicle was seized.

The operation extended to Stanger, where a third suspect was apprehended. Posing as a police officer during the crime, he was found with a 9mm gas gun, handcuffs, an Saps jacket, and additional bank cards.

The men, aged between 23 and 41, are now in custody at Verulam Saps. Recovered evidence includes two replica firearms, Saps uniforms, gloves and stolen goods.

The trio is scheduled to appear in Verulam court on today.

eThekwini District Commissioner Major General Makhosazana Victoria Kheswa praised the Verulam Saps team for their swift and effective actions.

“These arrests reflect our unwavering commitment to removing habitual criminals from our streets, ensuring a peaceful and crime-free festive season,” she said.
