Young man (22) man drowns at Zinkwazi lagoon

Circumstances surrounding the drowning not yet determined.

With large crowds of locals flocking to the Zinkwazi beach at the weekend to cool off in the extremely hot weather, 22-year-old Darnall visitor Smiso Pasi drowned in the lagoon on Saturday.

Zinkwazi lifeguard supervisor Freedom Mthethwa confirmed that Pasi’s body was discovered at around 2pm.

He said the lagoon was a popular area for recreational activities, but was not a fully monitored area.

“Our team primarily focuses on Zinkwazi’s main beach and Black Rock but we also patrol the lagoon periodically and respond to callouts,” said Mthethwa.

The circumstances leading to the drowning have not yet been determined.
