Shrieks of joy could be heard across the North Coast earlier this week as the outgoing matric class received their Independent Examinations Board (IEB) matric results. Four local schools followed the IEB curriculum in 2024: Ashton International College Ballito, Crawford International North Coast College, Reddam House Ballito, and Curro Salt Rock. Ashton also has matrics who graduated from the Cambridge curriculum and received their results last week (see page 14).

Together, the schools’ fantastic results paint a strong academic picture for the area, with many pupils planning to study competitive degrees at universities around the world.

Top performers

The top three IEB pupils from North Coast schools were:

• Taleese Chetty (1st – 93.23%) from Crawford International North Coast College
• Kamalika Govender (2nd – 92.92%) from Crawford International North Coast College
• Aaminah Vally (3rd – 91%) from Reddam House Ballito

Crawford International North Coast College

Crawford achieved a 100% pass rate, securing 168 distinctions at an average of 2.2 per pupil.

• Taleese Chetty: Eight distinctions, including top 1% nationally in Afrikaans FAL and Physical Sciences.
• Kamalika Govender: Eight distinctions, including top 1% nationally in Engineering Graphics and Design and Mathematics.

College Principal Elainee Kistan commended the pupils for their resilience, noting the school had faced challenges such as a tornado.

“We are incredibly pleased with this matric cohort. They showed tremendous grit and resilience to achieve some of the best results at Crawford North Coast over the last few years. We are very proud of our students.”

Ashton International College Ballito

Ashton’s IEB class achieved a 100% Bachelor’s degree pass with a grade average of 70.5%.

• Top student Caitlin Pansegrouw: Seven distinctions, top 1% nationally for Computer Applications Technology, with an average of 86.71%.
• Aarti Datharam: Six distinctions and an average of 86.43%.
• Cassidy de Grooth: Five distinctions with an 84.86% aggregate.

Ashton also celebrated outstanding Cambridge curriculum results.

• Top Cambridge pupil Taahir Bauchoo: Eight distinctions, 85.7% aggregate, planning to study abroad.

Senior College Head Belinda Boucher highlighted the students’ perseverance:

“These results are a true reflection of the hours of study, perseverance, and passion shown by our students.”

Reddam House Ballito

Reddam achieved its highest average student aggregate of 75.5% since taking on a matric class, with a 100% university bachelor’s degree pass rate.

• Aaminah Vally: Eight distinctions, 91% aggregate, topped the class.

• Dhiya Singh: Seven distinctions, 90% aggregate, set to study Mechatronic Engineering at Stellenbosch University.

• Kaity Trembath: Four distinctions, top 1% nationally in Mathematical Literacy.

Executive Head Catherine Raw praised the collaboration between pupils, teachers, and parents:

“Everybody working together made this success happen.”

Curro Salt Rock

Curro Salt Rock celebrated its top-performing matriculants:

• Outgoing Headgirl Danika Willemse: Three distinctions, 80.4% aggregate, plans to study Pharmacy at North-West University.
• Danica Maidman: Four distinctions, 75.3% aggregate.
• Amahle Jali: Two distinctions, 73.8% aggregate.

Principal Jennifer van Buuren reflected on a positive year:

“It has been a privilege to work with this talented group of matrics. Their contributions – on stage, in the classroom, and on the sports field – have been truly remarkable.”
