Ballito 10-year-old airlifted after horseriding accident

The young rider was left in a critical condition after being thrown off her horse onto a fence yesterday afternoon.

A 10-year-old Ballito girl had to be airlifted after she was thrown off her horse onto a fence yesterday afternoon.

The young rider was training at a local equestrian estate when the incident happened.

She was riding near the fence of the jumping arena when thrown off and is believed to have landed on her back.

IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson, Samantha Meyrick, said the girl was airlifted to a level 1 trauma hospital because of suspected spinal injuries.

“Given the poor road conditions and travel time, airlifting her was the best option once she was stabilised,” said Meyrick.
