Eskom increases loadshedding to stage 6

Stage 6 loadshedding will continue from Sunday to Monday. Eskom will update the country on the situation at 11am.

Eskom upgraded loadshedding to Stage 6 from the early hours of Sunday morning.

This follows the sudden implementation of Stage 3 loadshedding yesterday evening.

Eskom said the escalation was due to multiple unit trips at Camden Power Station in Mpumalanga.

Eskom said they were implementing loadshedding to Stage 6 to “replenish emergency reserves and prepare for the week ahead” after multiple trips happened at the Majuba Power Station – and a unit trip at Medupi – last night.

South Africans had enjoyed 10 months of uninterrupted blackouts until January before the blackouts returned. This latest batch of loadshedding was implemented on Saturday afternoon after 20 days of continuous energy supply.

The last time the country was at Stage 6 loadshedding was in February last year.

The national power utility will provide a further update at 11am this morning.

Loadshedding will affect KwaDukuza municipality as follows:

Stanger Northern Grid

Sunday: 11am to 1.30pm; 7pm to 9pm

Monday: 3am to 7am; 11am to 3.30pm; 7pm to 9.30pm

Ballito Southern Grid

Sunday: 3am to 7.30am, 11am to 1pm, 7pm to 9.30pm

Monday: 3am to 7am; 11am to 3.30pm; 7pm to 9.30pm
