How targeted Neuro-Linguistic Programming coaching can help children to thrive
The science-backed approach has been proven to assist in a wide variety of cases, from lack of confidence to overcoming trauma.
In today’s fast-paced world, children face immense pressure – academic expectations, social challenges and the anxiety of simply growing up.
As an NLP Life Coach, I help children build resilience, confidence and emotional well-being through Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), a powerful tool for transforming thought patterns and behaviours.
Who am I?
I’m May Coomer, a certified NLP Life Coach with a deep passion for helping children and families navigate life’s challenges. My journey into coaching began from my own struggles – growing up in a home marked by abuse and alcoholism, then finding stability only to lose my husband. These experiences ignited my desire to help others overcome adversity and step into their full potential.
What is NLP?
NLP is a science-backed coaching approach that focuses on how we think, communicate and behave. It helps children reframe negative thoughts, overcome fears and build confidence by shifting limiting beliefs into empowering ones. Unlike traditional therapy, NLP works quickly by rewiring the brain’s patterns through language, visualisation and mindset techniques.
Many children struggle with exam stress, social anxiety and self-doubt. Using NLP, I teach practical techniques such as:
• Anchoring confidence: A child nervous about public speaking can learn to trigger a confident mindset using a simple hand gesture.
• Reframing negative thoughts:
A child who believes, “I’m bad at math,” can transform that belief into, “I am learning and improving.”
• Managing overwhelm: Simple breathing and visualisation techniques help children stay calm under pressure.
Five signs a child might benefit from NLP coaching:
1. Negative self-talk: Saying things like “I’m stupid” or “I can’t do it.”
2. Anxiety or fears: Struggling with worry, phobias or school-related stress.
3. Emotional outbursts: Trouble managing big feelings or frequent meltdowns.
4. Learning struggles: Difficulty focusing, remembering or staying motivated.
5. Social challenges: Trouble making friends or expressing themselves clearly.
Every child deserves to feel confident, resilient and capable. Through NLP coaching, I equip children with tools to manage emotions, improve focus and build self-belief – skills that will serve them for a lifetime. I am based at the Regency House in Ballito and conduct online coaching sessions worldwide.
