Three killed, one trapped in tragic bus crash off Tongaat bridge

Emergency response operations are ongoing and the scene remains active.

Three people have been confirmed dead after a bus plunged off the Tongaat River bridge in Maidstone early on Tuesday morning.

At least 12 passengers suffered serious injuries, while one individual remains trapped in the wreckage. Emergency personnel, including the fire department, are currently working to free the person.

The R102 has been closed to allow full access for rescue and emergency services. Motorists travelling in the area – particularly along Gopalall Hurbans Road – are advised to expect delays and seek alternative routes where possible.

The total number of injuries has not yet been confirmed. Emergency response operations are ongoing and the scene remains active.

Authorities have not yet released details regarding the cause of the crash. Updates will follow as more information becomes available.
