KwaDukuza kwaito artist poised for major breakout

Fresh off a collaboration with industry icons Character and Sibah Musiq, Nkawza is ready for the big stage.

He started with schoolyard rhymes – now KwaDukuza’s Nkawza is dropping hits with Kwaito legends and lighting up national TV.

Siyabonga Malwane(34), known by his stage name Nkawza, is currently riding the wave of his latest single Emjolweni – a vibrant collaboration with Kwaito artist Character and Sibah Musiq.
A music video is set to release next month, with hopes of dominating local music charts.

The release follows his earlier single IvaleMfanam, which is gaining airplay on major platforms like Channel O (Crispy Fresh), MTV Base (Sparkling New) and Trace Africa (New Release Exclusive).

Originally from Northen KZN his music journey took off in 2013 after moving to KwaDukuza, a place he describes as culturally rich. There, he joined a music group called Imasterz, where his career began to take shape.

As part of Imasterz, he performed across the country and even collaborated with German artist Karin. The group released two albums and several hit songs before disbanding in 2018.

Nkawza then launched his solo career with the kwaito single Ugesi, featuring Drama Drizzy, Funky Finest and DJ Solid, which brought him national attention. In 2021, he collaborated with Malawian artist Mullevest, expanding his reach across Africa.

His music blends Gqom, Afro Pop, Amapiano and Kwaito, and has been featured on top radio and TV channels. In 2024, his music video Ival’mfana, created with Sbopho and Jullucaa, earned positive reviews and TV playtime.

Outside of music, Nkawza is also active as an event organiser and programme director. He has performed alongside stars like DJ Tira, Oskido and Sjava at local events including the Ballito Pro and KwaDukuza Winter Fair.
