Book drive for Umhloti Primary needs your support

Gumballs of Love is collecting new and gently used books outside Salta Superspar.

Donate a book and help foster a love of reading among the youth ahead of Mandela Day next month.

The Gumballs of Love NPC is running a book drive for Umhloti Primary School at the Salta Spar in Marine Walk, open until July 18. They are calling for new or gently used books suitable for children aged 7-13, in good, usable condition.

Gumballs of Love manages a literacy programme at the no-fee public school, which serves over 700 pupils in Coniston, Verulam, near Mt Moreland. As part of the initiative, they run a small informal library for senior primary pupils, which the donated books will help stock. Books for younger children will be used in reading corners in individual junior primary classrooms.

Members of the public are also invited to assist in covering books in plastic on Mandela Day, July 18, between 1-4pm in the Spar courtyard at Marine Walk.

Volunteers are further welcome to join the Gumballs of Love team for literacy and maths support sessions at the school on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8-10am.
