Residents rally to raise R22k for Westbrook Retirement Village
The money will replace geysers for the elderly that had not worked for three years.
Eating for a good cause was the order of the day at Mozambik in Ballito Village on Saturday, where a sizzling prawn special brought locals together in support of the Westbrook Retirement Village.

The popular eatery hosted the fundraising event, with all proceeds going toward replacing four geysers for the elderly residents at the village. These geysers had been out of order for more than three years, leaving pensioners without hot water.

The event raised more than R22 000, enough to fully replace the irreparable geysers.
“We have raised enough money to replace all four geysers, which is fantastic. It’s unacceptable for people in their 70s and 80s not to have access to hot water,” said Johnny Mutton from RE/MAX Dolphin Realtors, who helped organise the initiative.

This community-driven event was made possible thanks to the strong support of the Ballito community. Mozambik owner and chef Brett Michielin hosted the event, which featured a special prawn meal and an exciting auction.

Prizes included a private wine and dine evening with Michielin, a luxury Mozambik hamper and generous contributions from Bayala Private Safari Lodge and AmaZulu African Palace.

Local businesses also rallied behind the cause. Gardening fanatics, a gardening company that assists Westbrook Village with maintenance, raised the alarm about the geyser situation. Their call for help in a Ballito community group sparked the outpouring of support from locals.
