Trio of Ballito talent to star in Broadway classic

Abigael Peters, Rosie White and Mzwakhe Bultitude will perform in Annie at the Playhouse.

Three budding performers from Ballito are among the talented cast of Annie, ready to light up Durban’s Playhouse Opera stage from July 4-13.

Abigael Peters (Ashton International College Ballito), Mzwakhe Bultitude (Reddam House Ballito) and Rosie White (Umhlali Prep) are part of the rags-to-riches feel-good story, which features some great show-stopping music hits including Tomorrow, Hard Knock Life, You’re Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile, Maybe, Little Girls and Easy Street.

Presented by the KZN Young Performers’ Project (YPP), Annie is the second of three musical theatre productions the youth-driven initiative is staging this year. Aimed at nurturing young theatrical talent from across the province, the production features a cast of 120 performers, including a double cast of senior primary school pupils performing as orphans, a group that includes Ballito’s own rising stars.

“We want to forge meaningful local and international relationships for our young performers. We are working towards providing opportunities for children with interest and skill in performance – from senior primary, through high school, to tertiary education and towards a national and international career,” said musical director Des Govender.

The much-loved musical follows the story of Annie, played by Kaitlyn Rex, a spirited young girl who escapes Miss Hannigan’s grim orphanage to stay with billionaire Oliver ‘Daddy’ Warbucks, portrayed by Daniel Mayiza. Alongside her loyal dog Sandy (played by Lucy, a golden retriever).

Tickets are available through Webtickets for R150-R280.
