Rotary Club of Zimbali elects new president

Fidel Okillah has been an active Rotary member since first joining in Kenya.

It was a moment of pride and celebration for the Rotary Club of Zimbali last Friday, as members gathered to witness the induction of their new president, Fidel Okillah.

The ceremony, filled with warmth and optimism, marked the beginning of a new chapter for the club as Okillah took the reins from outgoing president Julie Cloete. Cloete had succeeded Kosh Thaver, who continues to serve as the club’s treasurer.

Okillah joined Rotary in Kenya in 2020, moved to South Africa in 2021 and became a full member of the Rotary Club of Zimbali in 2022.

In his inaugural address, Okillah unveiled the club’s theme for the year ahead: Unite for Good.

He said community impact remains at the heart of what they do, highlighting education, upliftment and public health as core focus areas.

“We are not here to perform charity, but to deliver lasting change that uplifts dignity,” he said.

He also emphasised the critical role of fundraising, not just in terms of financial support, but as a foundation for forming meaningful partnerships.

“To the families and partners of our club, thank you. Your support allows us to show up, lead and serve. We commit to doing it with excellence,” said Okillah.

The club’s main fundraising efforts include the annual Miss Ballito pageant and Christmas tree sales, with proceeds supporting The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund.
