Motorcyclist dies in horrific crash near Fairbreeze

Paramedics were called back to the crash site on Saturday morning after the local mortuary reported that part of the deceased’s lower leg was missing.

A Friday evening ride ended in tragedy when a motorcyclist was killed in a horrific head-on collision on the R102 near Fairbreeze, Tongaat.

According to Kelsey-Jae Meyrick of IPSS Medical Rescue, emergency crews arrived to find the motorbike had smashed head-on into an SUV, with the impact throwing the rider, believed to be in his 30s, about 50 metres into nearby sugarcane fields.

The man was reportedly travelling from Ballito towards Tongaat when the accident occurred.

Despite efforts from paramedics, he had suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene. The occupants of the SUV escaped without harm.

In a grim follow-up to the tragedy, Meyrick said police asked them to return to the scene to search for a missing part of the deceased’s leg.

After a brief search, rescuers recovered the limb from the sugarcane field and handed it over to the police.
