Residents race across Ballito to raise funds for animal rescue

The popular return of the annual Sables Adventure Race raised R46 000 for the organisation.

Adventure and heart came together on Saturday as teams raced to raise funds for Sables Animal Rescue’s ongoing veterinary and community support work.

Starting at Townsend Park, the Sables Adventure Race 2025 brought together more than 50 participants who tackled a series of outdoor challenges all around town in support of animal welfare.

Heather Rabie, Avril French, Kevin Ginsberg and Trudi Ginsberg.

The event concluded with a celebratory prize-giving at Mozambik Ballito, where winners were recognised not only for their performance but also for their community spirit and creativity.

First place went to ‘2 Red Heads and a Blonde’ (Trudi and Kevin Ginsberg, Avril French and Heather Rabie), followed by ‘Amaklip’ (Kevin and Ilse Gore, Amber Ram and Kris Copplestone) in second and ‘The B-Team’ (Cassidy and Innie van den Heever and Jarrod and Callen Dyer) in third.

A highlight of the day was the Best Dressed award, which went to Backstreet Rebels (Mike Bower with Jacques, Michelle and Cameron La Marque), with ‘2 Red Heads and a Blonde’ and ‘Neon Nymphs’ securing second and third places respectively.

Young Ava Markham took top honours in the colouring-in competition. Event organiser Brendon Power expressed gratitude to all who supported the initiative.

Yolandi Markram, Liezel Carse, Christo Pretorius and Amelia Markram.

“We are deeply thankful to the community, sponsors and volunteers who helped make this day such a success,” he said.
