KZN construction excellence celebrated at Master Builders awards

Performance, quality work and health and safety achievements were all spotlighted,

KwaZulu-Natal Public Works MEC Martin Meyer pledged to strengthen collaboration with the construction sector during his address at Master Builders KZN’s annual awards evening.

Speaking at the event on October 31 at Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom, Meyer acknowledged historic challenges in public infrastructure delivery and reaffirmed his department’s commitment to improvement.

He confirmed that all contractors had been paid within 30 days over the past three months and outlined plans to simplify tender processes and support technical education initiatives.

“We are working to overcome the inefficiencies of the past and improve the delivery of hospitals, schools, roads and other public infrastructure,” he said.

The Master Builders KZN awards evening celebrated excellence in the construction industry, with a strong focus on health and safety standards.

More than 300 guests attended the event, themed “One algorithm and one brick at a time,” including contractors, industry leaders and government representatives.

“These awards shine a well-deserved spotlight on the successes of our member companies, often achieved despite economic pressures, site disruptions and other external challenges,” said Master Builders KZN president Craig Gainsford.

“They reflect success in project delivery, resilience, creativity and determination, the very foundation of our industry’s strength.”

Stefanutti Stocks Coastal was named overall winner, recognised for consistent excellence in construction as well as health and safety.

The remaining special awards went to:

Woman in Construction: Nompumelelo Mnguni, Bethu Projects (Pty) Ltd

Supplier of the Year: Corobrik (Pty) Ltd

Safety Person of the Year: Francois Hartkopf, Raubex (Pty) Ltd

Supreme Award for Health and Safety: Patcon Building & Civil Engineering Contractors (Pty) Ltd

Supreme Award for Excellence in Construction: SJC Projects
