Zimbali welcomes new culinary gem in Eleven Tribes Restaurant

Menu items that caught our attention included the grilled crocodile kebab and pulled pork trotter.

Zimbali Lodge played host to the elegant launch of Eleven Tribes Restaurant last week, where KwaZulu-Natal heritage met five-star sophistication.

The 180-seater restaurant, open to both the public and Lodge guests, serves modern cuisine that celebrates the country’s diverse cultures while bringing their shared food traditions together.

Boasting an eight-course set menu experience, complete with local wine pairings, the restaurant is certain to impress. Menu items that caught our attention included the grilled crocodile kebab, pulled pork trotter and complimentary avocado sorbet, served with every main course.

The evening opened with a warm reminder that, although guests were dining within a prestigious estate, they remained firmly rooted in KwaZulu-Natal.

“In South African tradition, food is never eaten alone. It is shared. Stories are exchanged. Strangers become neighbours and neighbours become family. That is why we encourage communal dining here. We invite guests to sit together, connect and leave not just satisfied but united,” said operations manager of Dream Hotel and Resorts Reinhard Visser.

His message was beautifully reinforced through cultural touches, including the welcoming offering of umqombothi (traditional Zulu beer), setting the tone for a celebration of heritage and hospitality.
