Fashion show lights up exhibition launch at The Gallery
Pupils from Nkosibomvu Secondary School modelled wearable art created by the National Fiberworks Group.
Art, fashion and youthful creativity took centre stage as DE/MATERIALIZE launched at Ballito Lifestyle Centre last Thursday.
The exhibition space was buzzing as visitors explored the collection of textile art, painting, sculpture, drawing and mixed media, examining what happens when materials are softened, unravelled or reimagined.
Live music by Quiet Storm added to the energy of the night, with the highlight of the evening being a striking fashion show featuring wearable art created by the National Fiberworks Group. Six pupils from Nkosibomvu Secondary School in Hambanathi, Tongaat, confidently took to the floor as models, showcasing unique, handmade pieces that blended fashion with fine art.
“There is nothing that brings us, at The Gallery, more joy than seeing community coming together and embracing art in all forms. Tonight was another special and proud moment, exhibiting the national Fiberworks group with fellow local artists and collaborating with Nkosibomvu to put on a beautiful fashion show,” said Sarah O’Reilly, The Gallery Manager and curator of exhibitions.
Each design told its own story, celebrating texture, colour and craftsmanship. Guests were impressed not only by the creativity of the garments, but also by the young models who brought the pieces to life.
All the wearable art items showcased on the night are available for purchase through The Gallery.
