Wednesday Social Club bids farewell to longest-serving member
The Wednesday Social Club meets monthly at the Ballito Library and continues its strong community focus.
The Wednesday Social Club recently bade farewell to its oldest and longest-serving member, Ann Havenga, who has been part of the club since 2011.
Ann is relocating to Hillcrest to be closer to her son and will be fondly missed by fellow members. The occasion was marked with a farewell gathering at Catia’s in Ballito Junction.
Ann described her decision to attend a Wednesday Social Club meeting as “one of the best I ever made.”
“There were 24 ladies present at my first meeting and what a friendly and hardworking group they were, and still are,” said Ann.
“We all helped with street collecting for deserving causes. Beautiful jerseys, teddy bears and blankets were also knitted. Do yourselves a favour, attend a meeting and bring a friend. One feels so at home.”
Founded in 1977 as The Good Companions, the group originally met at Umhlali Country Club and has always embraced its motto, ‘Help us to help others’.
The Wednesday Social Club meets monthly at the Ballito Library and continues its strong community focus. Members knit baby items for new moms visiting the Ballito Clinic and collect dried food for Vision 153, while also providing a welcoming space for friendship and fellowship.
